A shocking safety incident involving the Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro has recently surfaced, raising concerns about device safety and battery reliability. On December 12, a Xiaomi tablet reportedly caught fire while being used under normal conditions inside a residential apartment in China.
Incident Details
According to the report, the incident took place in an ordinary home environment, not under extreme heat or heavy usage. A child was lying on a bed and watching videos on the Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro, which was mounted securely using a panto-arm holder. The tablet was connected to a power source at the time.
Without any prior warning, the device reportedly made a loud popping sound, after which a large amount of hot smoke began pouring out of the tablet’s casing. The situation escalated quickly and could have resulted in a serious fire.
Fortunately, adult family members were present in the apartment. They acted immediately by disconnecting the tablet from the power socket, preventing the incident from turning into a larger household fire or causing injuries.
Happened Under Ideal Conditions
What makes this case particularly alarming is that it did not occur in harsh conditions. The device was being used indoors, in a normal apartment setting in China, and only for video playback—one of the most basic use cases for a tablet.
This raises questions about:
- Battery safety and quality control
- Thermal management inside the device
- Possible manufacturing or component defects
Incidents like these are rare but serious, especially when they involve devices used by children.
Xiaomi Yet to Respond
As of now, Xiaomi has not released an official statement or explanation regarding the incident. There is no confirmation yet on whether the tablet has been taken in for investigation or if this could be an isolated case.
Users are advised to remain cautious, avoid using devices while charging for long periods, and immediately disconnect any gadget that shows signs of overheating, smoke, or unusual sounds.
While a single incident does not necessarily indicate a widespread issue, situations involving battery fires should always be taken seriously. Until Xiaomi provides an official response, this case serves as a reminder of the importance of device safety and close supervision—especially when electronics are used by children.
More updates are expected once Xiaomi completes its internal investigation and shares its findings.
