Xiaomi is significantly behind in India when it comes to rolling out the HyperOS 3 update based on Android 16. While other smartphone brands have already delivered their major Android 15/16 updates to multiple devices, Xiaomi has rolled out only one major update in India so far, and that too for the budget Redmi 13 5G.
Recently, Xiaomi has started teasing the HyperOS 3 update through official social media channels, but Indian users are already frustrated. Many have been waiting for months, especially when the same updates are already available in China, Europe, and Global markets for several Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO models. The long delay in India has created dissatisfaction among users who feel ignored during one of the most important software rollouts for Xiaomi.
The Big Problem: India’s Beta Program is Broken
Apart from the delayed rollout, there is another serious issue affecting Xiaomi users in India — the broken beta testing program. This issue has existed for a long time across many Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO smartphones.
Here’s the problem:
When a user applies for the beta program through the Mi Community app and gets approved, they expect to receive early beta updates before the public rollout. However, approved beta testers in India never receive the beta OTAs, while normal users — who never applied for testing — get the updates earlier or on time.
In simple terms, the beta program in India is not functioning. Even after approval, the updates do not arrive. This defeats the entire purpose of having beta testers who are supposed to help the company find bugs and provide feedback.

I personally experienced this issue on my POCO F7. Despite being approved as a HyperOS beta tester, I never received a single beta update on my device. The OTA simply never appeared. Meanwhile, users who weren’t part of the program received regular and beta-tagged updates right on schedule.
This is a major flaw that Xiaomi urgently needs to fix. If the beta program does not work correctly, valuable feedback is lost, bugs remain unreported, and stable updates take longer to reach users.
What Xiaomi Must Do Before Expanding HyperOS 3 in India
Before Xiaomi moves forward with a wider rollout of HyperOS 3 in India, two things must be addressed:
- Fix the broken beta program so approved testers actually receive updates.
- Improve the consistency of the India rollout schedule, matching the pace of Global, Europe, and China variants.
HyperOS 3 is a major upgrade with performance improvements, UI enhancements, smoother animations, a refreshed launcher, new lockscreen options, and several system optimizations. But none of this matters if users — especially those waiting for months — cannot receive the update on time.
With growing competition in the Indian market, Xiaomi must fix this issue immediately to regain user trust and deliver the HyperOS experience Indian users deserve.
